Dirt Jump / Park / Trial Mountain Bike QUESTIONS! Setup problems? Ok, so i have lots of questions about dirt jumping and park and trial mountain biking. 1. What are the difference in the set up of a dirt jumping MTB and a skate park MTB and a trial MTB(The kind that Ryan Leech uses!) ? 2.What are the advantages and disadvantages of both 26" and a 24" wheels? What kind of difference do they make? 3.I'm a really short person...about 5'5" and what frame is good for me? I need a bike small enough for me so I could easily move my weight behind the rear hub for high bunny hop and other tricks. Which size of wheels are better for me? 24" or 26"? 4.Usually the shortest distance from the surface of the tire to the seat tube on the frame is about 1" right? why are there some dirt jumping bike has shorter distance(the tire is almost touching the seat tube)? Is it because of the different size of the wheel or the frame or simply just the tire I have lots more questions, someone who's really into these kids of riding please help me! e-mail me or IM me pleas

essendonboy05 replied: "I am really into riding and know enough to say that you will prefer a 26" tyre anyday even if you are not tall, also a medium sized frame will suit you nicely, i am about 5'7 and i ride a medium sized Hardrock and it suits me perfectly. The differance in Park bikes/ DJ ( dirt jump) and trial bikes are as follows Parkbikes - either very stiff or rigid forks (80mm travel or less) - single speed hub - no brakes/back brake only - Very light DJ bikes - Both front and rear brakes - Plush/soft forks (100mm - 130mm max travel -longer stems -shorter wheelbase - kinda medium weight - single chainring at the front Trials bikes (now i have to admit i am not a big fan of trials bikes so i dont know that much about them but here goes) -rigid forks or very rarely 50mm travel forks - very long and low frames - squared tyres -hard tyres"

Fox Mountain Bike Jersey or Thor MX Jersey, for mountain biking...? I'm looking at buying a mountain biking jersey and i'm deciding between two choices. Should i get a short sleeve Fox jersey specifically designated for mountain biking, or would a ventilated thor jersey designated for motocross (supposedly) be acceptable? I'm in Texas so heat is an issue, the thor one is 3/4 sleeve though. And they are both the same price ($35) I suppose this is mostly an ive question i just wanted to see what anyone had to say. Thanks!

Chase replied: "fox"

DianaM replied: "Are you baggie/cargo mt bike rider or spandex? If you are baggie/cargos then Marzocchi if you can find it (I saw a few on ebay!) very cool, or Maxxis racing. Then maybe the name of your bike has a nice jersey?? Kona or whatever? Troy Lee Designs are very very cool too. Fox & Thor are so commerical. Try to find one that nobody else has."

Steve replied: "First thing you need to find out if the truck has a title. If not you had better pass because it might have a lien or be stolen. If in fact the seller can give you a title then you are getting an ok deal mainly because the truck is a 4x4. They are always worth good money even if the vehicle is beat up a little."

If I follow this, Will I lose my belly and leg fat by the end of the summer? Part 1: Running: it's cheap, accessible, and you get quick results. No membership to the gym required, and all you need are a pair of running shoes, shorts, and a shirt. If you run around your neighborhood for 45 minutes to an hour for 5 or 6 days a week, you'll lose abdominal fat, your thighs will shrink and become muscular, you'll look leaner, you'll sleep better, and you'll be able to do other fun physical activities like hiking more easily. Part 2: Strength training. Again, easy, accessible, cheap. No membership to the gym required. You can lift weights right in your own home. For example, take a dictionary to start, balance it on your hands while laying down, and lift up and down. Ta-da, strength training for the arms. Or, buy a set of weights from a sports store; they're relatively inexpensive. Part 3: Cut back on the junk food and replace it with fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, lean meats, whole grains, etc. Your diet doesn't have to be so strict that you end up binging on the bad stuff. Just make substitutions. Instead of ice cream, eat frozen yogurt. For your chips substitute, eat fat-free Pringles. Make sure you get enough of the good calories, and don't skip any of the food groups! (that means no low-carb diets) Any mineral or vitamin deficiency in your diet will compromise your energy stores and your overall health. Get involved in your cooking, so you know exactly what's going into your mouth. Look up healthy recipes on the internet. You'll find that a lot of these healthier foods taste much better than you thought they would. (Plus, you're spending the same amount of money on food; you're just buying different stuff.) Part 4: Reward yourself every now and then. It's fine to live a little. Just make sure you're only rewarding yourself once or twice a week. Part 5: Stay active even on your recovery days. Take a hike with friends in the mountains. Go for a leisurely swim. Bike with a significant other. Pick up a sport hobby, like tennis. Part 6: Keep at it and have patience. You didn't gain the weight overnight, so you're not going to lose it overnight. Don't expect to lose more than 2 pounds per week. Doctors and dietitians recommend this amount; anything else is considered to be unhealthy. The combination of eating right and exercising regularly WORKS. You'll become leaner and you'll stay that way if you continue to eat right and exercise daily. I'm trying to lose 15/20 pounds.

shanica gal#1 replied: "well all i now is try to be on a fruit and water fast then every single day you exercise and when you are about o go shower in the evenig if you came from outside the you can lose weight how much pounds are you trying to lose?"

nicole replied: "That sounds really good. But try to run only 3 - 4 times per week, here's why. Your body needs at least 24 hours to restore the muscle glucose that repairs muscles. If it is continually depleted day after day you will set yourself up for injuries that will make all of the hard work go down the drain. You will get better results faster actually if you allow your body the required time to rest. Your absolutely right about the combination of eating right and exercising. I've been doing just that to lose weight from my pregnancy. Another perk is that if you do stick with it you'll live longer and be happier. Good job on being smart enough to stay away from the fad and low carb diets too!!! Those will get you nowhere fast."

shellshell replied: "sounds typical stick to it it will work"

You should be more concerned with your percent body fat, not your weight. 5. the best, most effective way or burning fat is by combining weight-training and cardio exercise. The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will be. You will burn more calories all day long, including while you sleep. A health body fat percentage for males is 7-18%, females 18-24% (approximate numbers). 6. you should eat 6-8 small meals each day - this will prevent you from eating 3 large meal which will slow your metabolism while your body works to digest the large quantity of food. As a general rule of thumb, you should be weight-training 3-4 times per week and performing cardio 3-5 times per week. Consider hiring a personal trainer (ISSA certified) and a nutritionist. The money spent on these services is worth more than spending money on pills and potions."

verityy replied: "It sounds good but how do you intend to follow through? Physics MC HW questions, please help? Hi, i have some multiple choice physics hw questions, i would appreciate any help i can get. 1)Suppose you want to ride your mountain bike up a steep hill. Two paths lead from the base to the top, one twice as long as the other. Compared to the average force you would exert if you took the short path, the average force you exert along the longer path is 1. four times as small 2. the same 3. three times as small 4. undetermined-it depends on the time taken 5. half as small 2)A sled is pulled up to the top of a hill. At the bottom of the hill the sled has a speed |v| and a kinetic energy K (the energy due to the sleds motion). In every case friction and air resistance are so small they can be ignored. The sled is pulled up a steeper hill of the same height as the hill described above, and allowed to slide down the hill. How will the velocity of the sled at the bottom of the hill compare to that of the sled at the bottom of the original hill? 1. There is not enough information given to say which speed at the bottom is faster. 2. The speed at the bottom is the same for both hills. 3. The speed at the bottom is greater for the steeper hill. 4. None of these de ions is correct. 5. The speed at the bottom is greater for the original hill because the sled travels fur- the. 3)Compare the kinetic energy (energy of mo- tion) of the sled at the bottom of the original hill and of the steeper hill in part 1. 1. The kinetic energy of the sled at the bot- tom is greater for the steeper hill. 2. The kinetic energy of the sled at the bottom is the same for both hills. 3. None of these de ions is correct. 4. There is not enough information given to say which kinetic energy of the sled at the bottom is greater. 5. The kinetic energy of the sled at the bottom is greater for the original hill. 4)The sled is pulled up a higher hill that is less steep than the original hill described in part 1. How does the speed of the sled at the bot- tom of the hill (after sliding down) compare to that of the sled at the bottom of the origi- nal hill? 1. None of these de ions is correct. 2. The speed at the bottom is greater for the original hill because the sled travels fur- ther. 3. The speed at the bottom is the same for both hills. 4. There is not enough information given to say which speed at the bottom is faster. 5. The speed at the bottom is greater for the higher hill. 5)For the higher hill that is less steep, how does the kinetic energy of the sled at the bottom of the hill after slid downing compare to that of the original hill? 1. None of these de ions is correct. 2. There is not enough information given to say which kinetic energy of the sled at the bottom is greater. 3. The kinetic energy of the sled at the bottom is the same for both hills. 4. The kinetic energy of the sled at the bottomis greater for the original hill because the sled travels further. 5. The kinetic energy of the sled at the bottom is greater for the higher hill.

Magnus replied: "1. Since both paths lead to the same final displacement, you're doing the same work climbing the hill for both paths. Remembering that work is equal to force applied over a distance (W = F*d), you can set the two path expressions equal to one another and solve. W (path 1) = W (path 2) F1*d1 = F2*d2 F1*d1 = F2*(2*d1) because the second distance d2 is twice d1. F1 = 2*F2 F2 = (1/2)*F1 So you exert half as much average force going up the longer path than the shorter path. 5. 2. This is an example of conservation of energy. At the top of the hill you have a certain potential energy that is converted into kinetic energy as the sled goes down the hill. In both cases you start from the same initial height, so the initial energy is exactly the same. The potential energy is all converted into kinetic energy as you go down, so the velocity of the sled is always the same at the bottom of the hill, no matter what kind of path you take to get there. 2. 3. For the same reason as above, you start with the same energy and energy is conserved, so kinetic energy is the same for the sled at the bottom of the hill, regardless of the path it takes. 2. 4. The potential energy due to gravity is greater here, because you're starting from a higher hill and PE = mgh, and h is increased. At the bottom of the hill, your larger potential energy has become a larger, equal, kinetic energy. The speed is increased. 5. 5. For the same reason as #4, you have increased initial energy and therefore a larger kinetic energy at the bottom of the hill. 5."

Very quick and easy conceptual physics question.. no math involved? Suppose you want to ride your mountain bike up a steep hill. Two paths lead from the base to the top, one twice as long as the other. Compared to the average force you would exert if you took the short path, the average force you exert along the longer path is 1. undetermined-it depends on the time taken 2. four times as small 3. half as small 4. three times as small 5. the same

Nicole C replied: "Well, if both paths lead up the same direction, which is upward, and there are two different paths, then the force towards the longer path should be 1.undetermined. My reason for this is because the path was longer. When you have a longer path to go on, you put put more force into the speed in which you're going at, to decrease your time. The shorter path, requires less force of speed because it is shorter, and the shorter the distance, the shorter the time. So yeah, the answer is 1. undetermined-it depends on the time taken."

Activities in Moab for children? I'm planning a camping trip to Moab in late April with my family (Me, my wife, 3 yr old son, and 4 month old son). I want to do a little mountain biking but definitely can't leave my wife at the campsite taking care of the boys the whole time, so what are some suggestions that we can all do as a family? Any interesting places to see by car? Short hikes with strollers? Museums? OK, remember that I have two little ones, so driving to 4-Corners or Natl parks (other than Arches) won't work.

Survey/Cycling A Few Short Questions.? 1. How often do you ride your push bike? 2. What kind of bike do you ride?, bmx, mountain, road. 3. On average how far do you ride in a week? 4. Why do you ride? Fun, exercise, Passion, Competition 5. How long have you been riding? 6. What do you think of the council funded facility's around where you live? (De ion) Thankyou.

Sean replied: "1. twice a week to work 40 Km round trip, long ride once a month. 2. road bike 3.80 km 4. fitness, enjoyment 5. on and off for 12-18 months 6. more bike lanes needed on roads as bike paths have alot of walking and running traffic with Ipod."

Rockies VM replied: "1 about 3 times a week 2 city bike 3 about 35 miles 4 errands and exercise 5 about ten years 6 about average, the trails don't connect, but we have some trails"

Jim G replied: "1. 6, 7, 8 times a week 2. road 3. 200 km 4. I ride to ride; mostly to get from 'here' to 'there', and back. Exercise, fresh air, convenience, economy. 5. 25 years - this batch. 6. Pathetic! Many councilors think bicycles are children's toys that belong in the playground. Thank you for asking."

Smart Kitty replied: "1. How often do you ride your push bike? Every other day (in the summer) 2. What kind of bike do you ride? I have a mountain bike 3. On average how far do you ride in a week? 10 miles 4. Why do you ride? Exercise 5. How long have you been riding? For about 7 years 6. What do you think of the council funded facility's around where you live? Our town doesn't have a funded facility that I know of, but that would be wonderful if they did have one!!!!! :)"
